Our Leaders

The Healthy US Collaborative was founded in 2018 by a small group of individuals who strongly believe that health is the most important asset we have. Its mission is to foster a culture of whole-person health across the country by inspiring and enabling people of all ages, education, socioeconomic status, geography, and cultural backgrounds to prioritize their health and well-being for improved quality of life.

Co-Founder and President of the Bravewell Collaborative, Christy Mack, is also the President of the Christy and John Mack Foundation. She is regarded as one of the nation’s leading public advocates for the transformation of our healthcare system, for related broad-based public education and disease prevention programs, and for the role that philanthropy must play in bringing about a healthier nation.

Her strong belief in the importance of professional and public education, both in the field of medicine and philanthropy, has also made her a generous contributor to causes such as PBS programming, September 11th post-traumatic stress disorder training programs, and fellowships in integrative medicine throughout the country and at the National Institutes of Health.  She was an advisor for the award-winning film, Escape Fire: The Fight to Rescue American Healthcare, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 2012 and was awarded the Candescent Award for Outstanding Socially Conscious Documentary and nominated for an Emmy for its CNN TV presentation in 2013.

Christy has also made significant media appearances on Discovery Channel Second Opinion hosted by Mehmet Oz, MD; The Charlie Rose Show, Forbes Radio with Robert Lenzner; XMRadio’s Oprah & Friends; Contribute Magazine, Worth Magazine, and O Magazine.

Jenna Mack, Vice Chair

Jenna A. Mack, is an independent film producer working in both scripted and documentary projects and is the host of “In the Grey,” an interview series currently in development. Moving beyond a black or white perspective, the show reveals life’s complexities, what truly defines us, and what ultimately connects us. Having worked in media for the past 12 years, she advises and sits on the board of The Healthy US Collaborative and its TakeCare Initiative, as a co-executive producer of 50 independent short films highlighting everyday people learning to take care of their own health and well-being.  Jenna is passionate about making the world a more humane and empathetic place. She is a board member of Sesame Workshop which, in addition to their well-known work with Elmo and Big Bird for children around the world, is also focusing its major efforts on early childhood development with refugee children.  She is also a supporter of the Center for Family Representation that helps families stay together during times of crisis.

Sharon Reis
Sharon Reis, Executive Director

Sharon serves as the interim executive director for the Healthy US Collaborative. She worked with Christy and Ann on The Bravewell Collaborative, a philanthropic organization dedicated to transforming healthcare, for over a decade. In addition to her work with The Healthy US Collaborative, Sharon is principal of The Reis Group, a Washington-DC based healthcare public relations agency.

Ann Lovell, Co-Founder and Treasurer of the Bravewell Collaborative, is a certified public accountant with decades of experience in financial accounting and tax consulting. Ann is a founding Director and immediate Past President of Women Moving Millions and a member of the Women’s Leadership Board at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. She serves on the advisory council for the Women’s Foundation of Southern Arizona, where she established the organization’s first donor-advised fund, promoting leadership, access and parity for women and girls.

Donald I. Abrams, MD

A specialist in integrative medicine and cancer treatment at the UCSF Osher Center for Integrative Medicine. He is also a practicing general oncologist at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center.

Don Berwick, MD, MPP, FRCP

President Emeritus and Senior Fellow at the Institute for Healthcare Improvement. He is also former Administrator of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.

Jeffrey Brantley, MD

An Assistant Consulting Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Duke University School of Medicine. He is also a founding faculty member of Duke Integrative Medicine.

M. Alejandro Chaoul, PhD

An Assistant Professor and Director of Education for the Integrative Medicine Program in the Department of Palliative, Rehabilitation, and Integrative Medicine at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. He is also an Associate Faculty Member at The McGovern Center for Humanities and Ethics.

Margaret Chesney, PhD

A Professor Emerita in the Department of Medicine at University of California San Francisco (UCSF) and a former Director of the UCSF Osher Center for Integrative Medicine.

Lorenzo Cohen, PhD

The Richard E. Haynes Distinguished Professor in Clinical Cancer Prevention and Director of the Integrative Medicine Program at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center (Houston) and Distinguished Clinical Professor, Fudan University Cancer Hospital, Shanghai, China.

Elisabeth Fontaine, MD

An obstetrician-gynecologist with a 25 year career at Northwestern Medical Center in VT. Being one of first Board Certified in Lifestyle Medicine, she established a Lifestyle Medicine Clinic and expanded health coaching to the primary care setting. She is a founder of the RiseVT movement, a public/private partnership to improve the health of the people of Vermont. She currently serves as the chair of the state level Scientific Advisory Board guiding the research surrounding the EPODE methodology.

Tracy Gaudet, MD

A leader in the development of Whole Health through decades of radically re-envisioning and implementing new approaches to address health outcomes and costs. She most recently served as the founding Executive Director of the Whole Health Institute. Prior to this position, Dr. Gaudet was the Executive Director of the Veterans Health Administration’s National Office of Patient Centered Care and Cultural Transformation and the Executive Director of Duke Integrative Medicine until 2010.

James Gordon, MD

A Harvard educated psychiatrist and a world-renowned expert in using mind-body medicine to heal depression, anxiety, and psychological trauma. He is founder and executive director of the nonprofit Center for Mind-Body Medicine, a clinical professor at Georgetown Medical School, and was chairman of the White House Commission on Complementary and Alternative Medicine Policy.

Michele Griffith, MD

A practicing physician in Charlotte, North Carolina and board certified in internal medicine and integrative holistic medicine. She is also CEO of 21stMD.com, the virtual component of A Doctor in the House, PLLC.

Mimi Guarneri, MD

Board-certified in cardiovascular disease, internal medicine, nuclear cardiology, and integrative holistic medicine, she is deeply committed to expanding integrative medicine, education and research globally. She is also a Founder and President of The Academy of Integrative Health and Medicine, a Clinical Associate Professor at University of California, San Diego (UCSD), and the Past President of the American Board of Integrative Holistic Medicine (ABIHM). She co-founded the Scripps Center for Integrative Medicine and served as medical director for 15 years.

Rocio Huet, MD

Board certified in internal medicine, integrative medicine, and medical acupuncture. She is also the Director of Integrative Medicine at the University of Tennessee Medical Center.

Ben Kligler, MD, MPH

A board certified family physician who has been treating children and families from an integrative medicine perspective for almost twenty years. He is Associate Professor of Family Medicine at Icahn Mount Sinai School of Medicine, and is Vice Chair and Research Director of the Mount Sinai Beth Israel Department of Integrative Medicine. Dr. Kligler was the founding medical director of the Continuum Center for Health and Healing, an integrative medicine practice.

Ana C. Krieger, MD, MPH

The Chief of the Sleep Neurology Division in the Department of Neurology, and the Medical Director of the Center for Sleep Medicine at Weill Cornell Medicine. She is a Professor of Clinical Medicine in the Departments of Medicine, Neurology and Genetic Medicine.

Nicole Lamoureux

A Chief Executive Officer who works daily with the National Association of Free and Charitable Clinics, its 1,200 member organizations, its Board of Directors, and its partners to advance the mission of ensuring the medically underserved have access to affordable, quality health care.

Laura Lander, MSW, LICSW

Laura Lander is an Associate Professor Social Work Section Chief and Addiction Therapist in the Department of Behavioral Medicine & Psychiatry, and Department of Neuroscience, at West Virginia University, School of Medicine. Ms. Lander has over 25 years of clinical experience in the field of mental health and substance abuse.

Jonathan LaPook, MD

The Chief Medical Correspondent for CBS News. He is also Professor of Medicine at the NYU School of Medicine, an Internist and Gastroenterologist at NYU Langone Medical Center, and the Director of the NYU Langone Empathy Project.

Dayna Long, MD

Dr. Dayna Long is a pediatrician with special interests in community health and engagement, and in promoting equity in health care. Long’s research and advocacy examines ways to make communities healthier, such as shifting traditional health care practices to team-based models focused on prevention. Long earned her medical degree from the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences. At UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland, she completed a residency in pediatrics and a fellowship in infectious diseases. She has additional training in incorporating cultural humility into patient care.

Victoria Maizes, MD

Chief of the UA Division of Integrative Medicine and a Professor of Medicine, Family Medicine and Public Health. Internationally recognized as a leader in integrative medicine, she stewarded the growth of the Arizona Center for Integrative Medicine from a small program educating four residential fellows per year to a designated “Center of Excellence” that trains more than 500 residents and fellows annually.

Mary Onwuka, MD

A physician advisor of Atlanticare Health System in Atlantic City, NJ, and is currently working to establish an integrative medicine care model there.

Mara Rabin, MD

Family physician and the Medical Director of Utah Health & Human Rights, a nonprofit dedicated to helping refugee and immigrant survivors of torture heal and reclaim their lives.

Melinda R. Ring, MD

Serves as the Executive Medical Director of the Northwestern Medicine Osher Center for Integrative Medicine in Chicago and a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine at the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine.

Lawrence Rosen, MD

An integrative pediatrician and founder of the Whole Child Center. He is the co-author of “Treatment Alternatives for Children,” an evidence-informed guide for parents interested in natural solutions for common childhood ailments.

Michael R. Rosmann, PhD

A clinical psychologist and family farmer who serves as Executive Director of AgriWellness, Inc., a nonprofit seven-state program which promotes accessible behavioral health services for uninsured and underinsured farm and ranch families and agricultural workers. He is also adjunct faculty at the University of Iowa.

Martin L. Rossman, MD, Dipl Ac

Founder and Director of Marin Integrative Medicine and Medical Acupuncture in Greenbrae, CA. He is also a Clinical Instructor in the Department of Ambulatory and Community Medicine at University of California San Francisco Medical Center and Adjunct Teaching Faculty at the California School for Professional Psychology.

Judy Salerno, MD, MS

President of The New York Academy of Medicine and is leading its strategic vision to advance health equity. A physician executive and one of the nation’s pre-eminent leaders in health and health care, she most recently served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Susan G. Komen ™, the world’s largest breast cancer organization.

Melia Snyder, PhD, LPC, REAT

The Education Director and a Clinical Therapist at Open Sky Wilderness Therapy. Previously, Melia served as a counselor, educator, and supervisor in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling program at Appalachian State University and directed the Appalachian Expressive Arts Therapy program.

Amit Sood, MD

A Professor of Medicine at Mayo Clinic College of Medicine, Rochester, MN. He also serves as Chair of Mayo Mind Body Initiative and Director of research and practice at Mayo Clinic Complementary and Integrative Medicine Program.

Myles Spar, MD, MPH

Chief Medical Officer at Vault Health and Chief Executive Officer and founder of Track180. He also directs the integrative medicine program at the Venice Family Clinic’s Simms-Mann Health and Wellness Center, which serves the underserved, and is faculty at the UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine.

Esther Sternberg, MD

A Professor of Medicine, Research Director for the Arizona Center for Integrative Medicine and Founding Director of the UA Institute on Place and Wellbeing at the University of Arizona.

David E. Victorson, PhD

A licensed clinical psychologist and Associate Professor of Medical Social Sciences in the Feinberg School of Medicine, at Northwestern University. He is also the Director of Integrative Oncology at the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center’s Survivorship Institute and Founder and Director of True North Treks, a young adult cancer support nonprofit that harnesses the big medicine of nature to help survivors and caregivers find direction through connection.

Donald K. Warne, MD, MPH

The Associate Dean of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion as well as the Director of the Indians Into Medicine (INMED) and Public Health Programs, and Professor of Family and Community Medicine at the School of Medicine and Health Sciences at the University of North Dakota. He also serves as the Senior Policy Advisor to the Great Plains Tribal Leader’s Health Board in Rapid City, SD.

Jon Kabat-Zinn, PhD

Jon Kabat Zinn, PhD, is Professor of Medicine Emeritus and creator of the Stress Reduction Clinic and the Center for Mindfulness in Medicine, Health Care, and Society at the University of Massachusetts Medical School.
